Newtown RFC wins Club of the Year at Montgomeryshire Sports Awards

At tonight's Montgomeryshire Sports Awards Newtown Rugby Club have had resounding success; a credit to all the players, volunteers and parents hard work.

We brought home the titles of 'Club of the Year' in recognition of a strong club with teams spanning all ages alongside it's commitments to community engagement at schools, multi sports events and 'get Newtown moving'. This is all on top of individual team and player successes.

The Dragons were successful in their nomination as senior team of the year coming runners up to a successful Forden FC. The nomination recognises the momentum the team is gaining and the potential to play an important role in the community next season.

The volunteer of the year award had many nominees and it was great to have two from Newtown RFC. Emma Betton from the U16s for her physio and first aid work, caring for the players on and off the pitch. Darren Bloor for his work with the seniors as joint coach and first aider, junior teams and committee. Both were worthy and alongside the other nominees a very hard choice had to be made. Darren came 3rd place to two strong volunteers but Emma's work was recognised by all in the room.

To top off the evening Tom Williams of Newtown RFC, Ospreys, Wales U20s and Wales 7s came runner up in the senior sports personality award.

Congratulations everyone recognised here but also to all those who make this club strong. #oneclub
